Guardian Camera Club: thomaseagle portfolio review
90: My grandmother's 90th birthday in Manningtree, Essex. She loves her grandson, I think this much is evident to all. A nice portrait which shows lots of humour and personality. It would have been improved by cropping out the chimney Photograph: thomaseagle/flickrjesolo: What ARE you looking at? And why? This is reminiscent of a polaroid picture, probably because of the shape and the bleached out colour. But, for that, it's intriguing. Probably a better title would have been just a straight when and wherePhotograph: thomaseagle/flickrdogwalking...in the middle of the most amazing weather: This image has a painterly quality. It is very atmospheric but the vignetting might limit its use from a publishing point of viewPhotograph: thomaseagle/flickr
khiva: One of a series of long exposures taken at night in a seemingly deserted Khiva, a city along the Silk Route in Uzbekistan. Once the tourists are holed up in the hotel for the night, the buildings are at their most beautiful. A good travel picture. The long exposure has given it a feel removed from everyday reality. Good techniquePhotograph: thomaseagle/flickrMoto Cicli L. Lazzaron, Paese (TV): Luigi Lazzaron is a former Olympic motorcyclist and now bicycle repair man outside Treviso. I used to drive past the shop on the way to the airport and seeing the stacked trophies in the window made me curious enough to finally go and ask inside the shop. Sig Lazzaron was friendly if a little sad at a dying profession, still working in his 80s, a general lack of care by modern people for their bicycles. I bought a bicycle pump, which I doubt was much reassurance to him. Really good use of selective depth of field, which draws you into the picture. Nice backstory tooPhotograph: thomaseagle/flickrRachida's mother: Rachida's lovely, smiling, friendly, welcoming mother lives in Midelt, Morocco. Good portrait of a modest woman in her environment. Nice horizontal linesPhotograph: thomaseagle/flickr
