Guardian Camera Club: silverweaver3 on portraiture preserving anonymity
Stranger in cafe. Against the light 1: The set of pictures of a man in a restaurant demonstrates quite an interesting way of approaching the assignment. It feels like the subject is being treated like the object of a paparazzi photographer. The viewer wonders if they are posing willingly or have been caught unawares. This feel comes from the grainey quality and the fact that the man is doing something (reading a paper) rather than just posing for the camera. The graineyness may have been caused by the photographer using too high an ISO setting. Perhaps a tripod should have been used. In an editorial context this is all slightly confusing, as newspapers and magazines have rules about intrusive photography and if this wasn't made clear this paparazzi feel might be misconstrued by the reader. However the overall feel is also quite relaxed which is goodPhotograph: silverweaver3/flickrAgainst the light 2:Photograph: silverweaver3/flickrnatural masking: Photograph: silverweaver3/flickr
