Guardian Camera Club: Microwave Chef's portfolio review
Flaring, Niger Delta: Gas is flared at a flow station owned by Italian oil company Agip in the Niger Delta, near the Akala-Olu community. As well as causing health problems and distress for people living nearby, gas flaring in Niger Delta is a also major source of CO2 emissions. Good spot news picture taken in a difficult place, but a tighter framing with a longer lens would have been better if at all possible in the circumstancesPhotograph: Microwave Chef/Flickrbloodied: Man is left bloody from a police surge into a crowd that had gathered on Cornhill on the evening of April 1 2009. The crowd was demanding the release of protesters trapped by riot police in a cordon outside the Bank of England since shortly after midday. Strong news picture, which might have been even stronger in colour, nice light in bloodied man's eyesPhotograph: Microwave Chef/Flickrdaisy lowe: Model Daisy Lowe is filmed for an MTV programme at the Climate Camp on Bishopgate on April 1, 2009. The picture works because Daisy is looking straight into the camera, however a tighter crop excluding the man in the blue jacket would be betterPhotograph: Microwave Chef/Flickr
in yer face: Zaria, Nigeria. Lively picture, but is it a news or a travel photograph? Or portraiture? It lacks contextPhotograph: Microwave Chef/Flickrorisa igun worshipper: Orisa Igun (god of longevity) worshippers at Olumo rock, based at a secondary shrine at the back of the rock in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Orisa Igun is worshipped annually during a 30-day celebration in which rams, goats and other animals are sacrificed. Another slightly ragged crop. The small figure painted on the wall above the woman should either be cropped out or fully included. A tighter, wider crop would be much more successful and would focus on the woman and incongruous signPhotograph: Microwave Chef/Flickrwhat are you photographing?: you. now fuck off. Not sure what is going on here. Was the traffic warden really using the f-word?Photograph: Microwave Chef/Flickr
