Guardian Camera Club: kjcrichton's portfolio review
DSLR01914: Detail of the Lower Lighthouse given a bit of unsharpen mask for that Greek ruin effect. Black and white pictures! Good for texture as here. I think most pictures benefit from a dose of unsharp mask. A nice detail, but only really works if used within a setPhotograph: kjcrichton/flickrDSLR01862_1: Gunk attached to a dilapidated and abandoned row boat on Fleetwood Marsh. Good texture and detail again, the curves of the clinker built boat gives a clue to what the subject is. Annoyingly, however that peeling paint might have looked good in colourPhotograph: kjcrichton/flickrDSLR01846: Rusted iron post of a groyne at Rossall Point. The detail of the groyne is a bit dull as a subject, but holds the set together and establishes place fairly well. However, a more dramatic overall view is needed to give the folio a stronger backbone. Oh, and is that the photographer's shadowPhotograph: kjcrichton/flickr
DSLR01742_3: More rusted bolts from another wreck on Fleetwood Marsh. I really like the two pictures of nails, especially the second one, where the differential focus gives a really retro cinematic feel. There's something interesting going on with the lack of depth of field. These two work very well in black and white too - the viewer isn't left wondering about colour as in the peeling paint picturePhotograph: kjcrichton/flickrDSLR01081_redux: Rusted bolts on a wreck on Fleetwood MarshPhotograph: kjcrichton/flickrDSC05638_1: Plastic sheeting wrapped round the bolt of a groyne. I changed the image to black and white and went for the unsharpen mask to try to bring out the textures of the individual shreds of plastic. The washed-up plastic has the feel of something natural about it. Man-made seaweed? Photograph: kjcrichton/flickr
