Guardian Camera Club: jill.f on portraiture preserving anonymity

JulyA : A really strong, interesting set of pictures. The four images show a good range of treatments. The background in the first picture is a nicotine colour which spookily reflects the smoking figure and seems to tell us something about the subject. The second picture uses the environment well, with the out of focus passers-by adding to the isolation of the figure. Number three makes good use of a prop to cover the face but perhaps, as hair this long on a man is quite rare, it would make him more recognisable. Number four is well composed, with the diagonals taking your eye to the subject. Good use has been made of the obscuring properties of the wet greenhouse glass Photograph: jill.f/flickr
