Guardian camera club: driftwood's portfolio review

Stranger in the Alleyway: This work looks at loneliness and isolation, by celebrating photography's unique ability to transform and dissect the world in which we live. The figures who inhabit the images, although clearly situated in a very real, indexical place and time, are, through the very film used to record their presence, cut off from their fellow inhabitants. It is partly a projection of the artist's own perpetual feelings of melancholy and isolation from a world he is supposed to be a part of, and partly a study into the frames and materials photography itself uses to portray these hidden emotions. Through the use of an unusual photographic technique, the work shows how even though we can appear to be very much situated in places, and to be close to other people, we can still feel completely cut off and alone Photograph: Driftwood/Flickr
