Guardian Books podcast: Andrew Motion and Anthony Horowitz on sequels

As Mark Lawson remarked in Guardian Review, it's high season for the sequel, so we talk to two leading writers who have shelved their own original fiction to write them. Andrew Motion explains why he rejects the "S" word when describing Silver, his follow-up to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic Treasure Island, which takes the story forward a generation.

Anthony Horowitz tells us about bringing Sherlock Holmes back to life – and then killing him off again – in his Conan Doyle tribute, The House of Silk. Horowitz, who is also working on the second Tintin film, discusses the fascination of iconic characters, and the appeal of adopting another writer's literary voice. And we're joined by film writer Xan Brooks to look at Hollywood's sequel addiction.
