Guard J.R. Sweezy expected to sign with Cardinals

Guard J.R. Sweezy is sticking around the NFC West, but not as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Sweezy is expected is to sign a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Sweezy was originally selected by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL draft at No. 225 overall. A defensive player at North Carolina State (and teammate of quarterback Russell Wilson), Sweezy spent time at linebacker, defensive end and defensive tackle before Seattle’s former offensive line coach Tom Cable got his hands on him.

Converted to guard, Sweezy would eventually start for the Seahawks in two Super Bowl appearances.

In March 2016, Sweezy signed a long-term deal with the Buccaneers but lasted only two seasons, finishing both years on injured reserve. Seattle signed the guard in August 2018 to add a familiar veteran presence and versatility to the offensive line.

The terms of Sweezy’s contract with Arizona have yet to be disclosed.
