GTA6 'won't be released until 2025' leaving gaming fans fuming

Grand Theft Auto fans reportedly face a lengthy wait for the sixth edition of the hit game, with an industry insider claiming that it may not be released until 2025.

Gaming website Gamespot reports on a video produced by Tom Henderson, who has a track record for leaking information on huge titles such as Call of Duty and Battlefield.

He has claimed that it will take the Scottish producers of the game four years to complete the much-anticipated GTA 6.

The article also cites that Rockstar has placed greater emphasis on employee wellbeing amid claims of staff being ‘overworked’ to get its previous game - Red Dead Redemption 2 - onto shop shelves.

GTA 6 will allegedly take place in a ‘modern day’ version of the fictional Vice City.

Gamers have been poking fun at the release rumours on social media over the last 24 hours.

One wrote: "GTA dropping in 2025??? It better be an exact copy of earth and I better be able to walk in my own house.”

Another said: “I was 24 when GTA 5 was release. If it’s true that GTA 6 will be released in 2025, I’m going to be 36.”

The last Grand Theft Auto game was released in 2013 and became the fast selling game of all time in the UK.

It was revealed that more than 2.25 million copies were sold within the first five days of its release.

The game is set in the fictional state of San Andreas and pokes fun at the so-called American dream.

But despite the game’s roots in American culture, the series is one of Scotland’s biggest cultural exports.

Dundonian David Jones produced the first ever Grand Theft Auto game for Playstation and PC in 1997.

His company DMA Design went on to become Rockstar Games, with its Rockstar North headquarters still based in Edinburgh.
