GTA 6 fans think they found an Easter egg in GTA Online, and all you have to do is zoom, crop, and rotate an abstract painting

The imminence of GTA VI has fans riled up for any crumb of information, and Rockstar may have hidden an Easter egg involving the game’s map in GTA Online—at least according to a fan theory.

An abstract painting in GTA Online may be a covert nod to GTA VI’s Map, the state of Leonida, as spotted by a Reddit user (thanks, Techradar!). The painting may have been added with the Kortz Heist last month.

This is the GTA 6 map isn't it

The painting shows a flat green polygon, but some keen-eyed fans think they’ve found a familiar pattern compared to the sequel’s map. One user inverted the image to point out a similar shape to Leonida. Another one went considerably further:

“If you zoom in, crop, rotate approximately 200 degrees, reverse it by mirroring the image (which makes sense to do becuase [sic] it’s hanging on the wall. Mirrors hang), you DEFINITELY get what looks to be a shape similar to what the GTA VI mapping project has come up with,” they wrote.

According to that theory, the green part would represent the other regions of the map surrounding Vice City, including the Leonida Keys on the bottom part of the (altered) image.

Not all fans subscribe to that theory, however. “It kinda just looks like Scotland, made blurry and inverted for some ‘abstract art’ decor,” another user replied.

This kind of subtle Easter egg is hard to confirm conclusively. It’s meant to be abstract art, so fans’ brains could just be seeing something that isn’t there. That said, this seems like exactly the type of marketing stunt that Rockstar would pull ahead of the game’s release. It’s nowhere near the old myths of Bigfoot and Leatherface in GTA: San Andreas (Ah, the good old days!), but it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

The good news is, fans likely won’t have to wait much longer for some news. Rockstar already released two GTA 6 trailers, and a third one is bound to come as marketing for the game starts ramping up before the game’s Nov. 19 release for consoles.

Rockstar already confirmed some of the game’s features, including dual protagonists Jason and Lucia and new gangs and factions. The studio also said PC players will have to wait a bit more to visit Leonida, however.
