GTA 6 fans, mark your calendars! Netflix lands first look before Rockstar in blockbuster streaming deal

The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI just got a lot more interesting. In a surprise move, Netflix has secured an exclusive six-hour window to debut an extended look at the year's biggest game before Rockstar releases the same footage to everyone else.

The exclusive showcase will stream on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET, giving Netflix subscribers an early look at GTA 6. Everyone else will have to wait until 9 p.m. ET, when the footage is expected to arrive on Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel.

The partnership is a major win for Netflix as streaming platforms battle for premium entertainment, and few franchises generate as much hype as GTA.

GTA 6 trailer rumours fall flat

The announcement comes after fans spent weeks convincing themselves that August 6 would bring Trailer 3. Social media was flooded with countdowns, insider claims and theories linking a trailer drop to Take-Two Interactive's August 7 earnings call.

Nothing happened.

Speculation had intensified after fans noticed backend changes on Rockstar's website in late July. Some even pointed to a police body-camera scene in the first trailer displaying an August 4 date as a hidden clue. Rockstar, however, has never confirmed any of these fan theories.

Why August 7 still matters

While Trailer 3 remains a mystery, Take-Two Interactive's earnings call on August 7 is still expected to attract enormous attention.

The company could reveal the first official update on GTA 6 pre-orders, which opened in June. Industry chatter suggests demand has been exceptionally strong, but only Take-Two knows the actual numbers.

What we know about GTA 6

Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC release date has yet to be announced.

Players will step into the lives of Jason and Lucia, exploring Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, Rockstar's Florida-inspired setting.

Digital pre-loading is expected to begin around November 12, roughly a week before launch.
