GTA 6 cover art continues a 25-year-old Rockstar tradition

GTA fans rejoice as Rockstar Games is keeping one of the series long-running traditions alive with the box art for GTA 6.

Rockstar Games released the first bits of info for GTA 6 we've had in over a year, since the last massive trailer dropped, but unfortunately, this didn't manifest in a third trailer for the game. Instead, it was news that pre-orders for the game will start next week, alongside the reveal of its box art. Plus, a short clip of Vice City itself was uploaded to the website, showcasing the Florida environment in more detail than before.

Since the 3D era of GTA started, covers have been the same, with the collage-style cover design making its debut in GTA 3 (albeit with other regions getting unique art for that one) before returning in every game since. And as fans have noticed throughout the series, every single one of these games has featured a helicopter in the top left – the sole exception being the DS spinoff Chinatown Wars, which didn't actually feature helicopters as it returned to the top-down perspective.

And as you can see here, Rockstar hasn't forgotten about its tradition despite the 13-year wait between games, with the GTA 6 box art featuring a helicopter in the top left. And fans are excited, too, as the top comment on the GTA subreddit post unveiling the cover is "The helicopter is back on the corner!"

Lack of a trailer aside, the good news here is that if pre-orders are starting, we hopefully won't see another delay (or at least not a major one). The other bit of good news is that Rockstar didn't mess up with the cover art for the game and kept one of the game's oldest traditions alive.

The UK government has reportedly been paying employees to play GTA Online with random people to understand their "lived experience".
