GTA 6 could feature hundreds of malls, 700 shops and the series' 'best driving ever'

We’ve still got a whole year to wait until Grand Theft Auto VI launches (boo hoo) but fortunately for fans, the trickle of information keeps coming.

And with it come whole new reasons to get excited about the game. Though Rockstar haven’t released too much yet about GTA VI’s gameplay – beyond the two trailers that we’ve already seen – there have already been leaks about what might feature in the game when it comes out in May 2026.

According to GameRoll, a credible ‘leaker’ who has revealed information about the game before (such as protagonists Jason and Lucia’s surnames) the game is actually set to be a lot bigger than anything we’ve seen the studio put out before.

Apparently, GTA VI is going to feature hundreds of malls, and within them, over 700 stores that you can enter, all of which are fully functional. Plus, GameRoll also mentioned that elevators might be present in certain skyscrapers, implying that you can go inside and explore some of those, too.

In addition, we also know a bit more about the gameplay itself. It looks like players will be able to switch between controlling Jason, controlling Lucia and controlling them both at the same time – most likely during missions where they’ll be working in tandem to do things like rob banks or threaten people.

The game has also promised smarter NPCs – and indeed, GameRoll has said that they will react to “you having your gun out”, while driving is “the best it’s ever been” and the game’s gore mechanics are apparently being built off those that appeared in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Some bad news, though: despite fans asking for years, there doesn’t look like there will be airbuds in the game, or any way to listen to GTA’s famous radio, unless you’re driving. And there doesn’t look like there’ll be a Disneyland parody after all: pour one out for all the deranged fun that could have been had there.

This insane level of detail isn’t out of the ordinary for Rockstar. The studio has made a name for itself with its ultra-detailed games – and it looks like its next title will offer more of the same.

Of course, this hasn’t been confirmed either way by Rockstar, so the leaks remain purely rumour for the time being. But the source appears to be good, and the news they impart is exciting.

Judging by everything we’ve heard so far, it looks like Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be a truly spectacular game – and likely another groundbreaking one. 13 years after GTA V launched, here’s hoping it’s true.
