GSOC investigating crash between garda patrol car and motorist that left teen seriously injured

The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission is appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was injured in a crash involving a garda vehicle over the weekend.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Deansgrange Road and Kill Lane in south Dublin at around 2.05am on Saturday, September 25.

A teenage girl and a garda were rushed to hospital after the two-car crash, both of whom were drivers of the vehicles.

They were both brought to St Vincent's Hospital where the woman's condition was described as "serious".

The driver of the garda car, a man in his 30s was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation has been launched into the collision by GSOC as it involved a garda patrol car and a vehicle driven by a member of the public.

The matter was referred to the statutory body in line with section 102 (1) of the Garda Siochana Act, 2005.

This provision provides for an independent investigation of any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of the gardai may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person.

An appeal for witnesses to the collision has been launched, with people who may have camera footage encouraged to come forward.
