A Ground Self-Defense Force helicopter crashed into a home in Kanzaki, Saga Prefecture, on Monday afternoon.
An emergency call came in at about 4:43 p.m., saying, "A helicopter crashed into a house in Chiyodacho, Kanzaki, Saga Prefecture, and black smoke is rising."
According to the Defense Ministry, the helicopter was an AH-64D attack helicopter. Just before the crash, GSDF personnel aboard said they were going to make a precautionary landing at Camp Metabaru in the prefecture.
The crash site is about 300 meters northeast of Chiyodachubu Elementary School. According to an official of the school, there were no students there at the time of the incident, as they had already left for the day. No teachers or officials at the school were injured.
According to the Defense Ministry, one of the two GSDF personnel who were on board the helicopter, was found in a state of cardiac and respiratory arrest.
