'Grumpy' Suvarnabhumi staff ordered to cheer up

Staff handling baggage scanning at Suvarnabhumi airport have been told to cheer up after a Thai travel blogger complained about them being "grumpy".

All workers responsible for scanning passengers' luggage had been instructed to improve their behaviour, to be polite and kind, and to communicate more clearly, the airport management said in an announcement posted on Facebook on Tuesday.

The promise was made after an influencer named Backpaeger posted on his Facebook page on Monday, asking why security staff at Suvarnabhumi who x-ray carry-on bags were always grumpy.

They should be better trained in how to talk to passengers and learn to control their emotions, Backpaeger said.

Backpaeger has 446,000 Facebook followers and 1.2 million YouTube fans. He describes himself as a solo Thai backpacker roaming the world to give others the inspiration to travel.

Airports of Thailand Plc employs a private firm to pass outbound passengers' hand luggage through X-ray machines before they enter the immigration area.

Most comments below Backpaeger's post agreed with him, but some also made the point they had experienced similar treatment at other international airports when they went abroad.
