Grumpy cat sues companies ripping off her merchandise from beyond the grave

Internet sensation Grumpy Cat may have passed away in May, but that doesn’t mean she can’t file a lawsuit.

The cat’s company, Grumpy Cat Limited, is suing to stop Internet stores from producing and selling knock-off Grumpy Cat merchandise.

Grumpy Cat Limited is hoping to stop illegitimate shops from selling merchandise such as hats, mugs, t-shirts, sweatshirts and more featuring their namesakes face or name.

The company is hoping the lawsuit stop anywhere but grumpycat.com from selling Grumpy Cat merchandise. It’s also fighting to receive the profits these illegal storefronts have gained by selling products with Grumpy Cat’s face or name on them.

Grumpy Cat sadly passed away at aged seven from complications due to a urinary tract infection. She died in the arms of her owner, Tabatha, who put out a statement on Twitter to announce her cat’s death. "Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere," the tweet stated.

For Grumpy Cat Limited, they would prefer for Grumpy Cat to live on through their official merchandise rather than with third party sellers.

Despite Grumpy Cat being dead for several months, her Instagram account is still very much active, with posts about once a week for the cat’s 2.7 million followers.
