Grumpy Cat , the feline made famous by internet memes, has died aged seven.
She became an internet sensation in 2012 thanks to her permanent scowl and was quickly transformed into a meme.
Grumpy, whose real name was Tardar Sauce, died on Tuesday following complications from a recent urinary tract infection, her owners say.
Her owner Tabitha Bundesen said that she had "helped millions of people smile."
The statement said: ""Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome.
"She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha.
"Besides being out baby and a cherished member of the family Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough.
"Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.
Grumpy Cat had travelled the world after becoming a global sensation with an Instagram account boasting more than two million followers.
She also had her own Madame Tussauds waxwork created in 2015.
