Groups trash beauty spot at illegal lockdown rave in Edinburgh woods

Angry Edinburgh residents living near Ravelston Woods have described how their local beauty spot has been turned into a dumping ground for weekend ravers.

A local couple sent Edinburgh Live images of broken bottles, mounds of cans and other garbage strewn across the woods, which is a popular spot for dog walkers.

The mess is “a typical Sunday morning” the man said, revealing that the parties in the woods had been going on for weeks now.

“This is three consecutive weekends, resulting in five bags of rubbish the first weekend, five the second and now nine bags of rubbish,” he said.

He added: “My wife and myself walk our dog here almost every day. The area in question is also littered with broken glass - not nice for a dog.”

The couple said they were fed up with having to dodge litter and broken glass left behind every weekend but noting had been done to stop the partygoers.

The man said it seemed to be the same people each weekend, judging by the cans and bottles they leave strewn about the place they seem to have a fondness for vodka and dark fruits cider.

The pictures were sent to Edinburgh Liv e after the locals said they despaired of any action being taken to stop the disruptive woodland raves.

“I have reported it to the council who kindly sent me a reply saying: ‘Your enquiry has now been resolved’,” the frustrated local said.

He added: “In the later evenings you can hear the noise of a party quite clearly, no doubt there is one household socially distancing so they need to shout.”

Edinburgh Live has approached the council for a comment.
