A WHISKY bar gave out what could be the largest Scottish drinks bill of all time.
A hotel in an Aberdeenshire village handed out the eye-watering tab after a particularly heavy night on the sauce.
The Fife Arms in Braemar confirmed that the 101 whisky orders were shared between a large group of people. The tab is a veritable shopping list of rare dream drams for whisky connoisseurs, including 50-year-old Balvenie, 1930s Glen Grant, and 1940s Laphroaig.
The massive order came to a staggering £158914 and totalled at 2.52 litres if each serving was a standard single measure. That is the equivalent of three and a half standard 70cl bottles.
For reference, you could buy 6293 bottles of Ballantine’s finest blended Scotch, totalling at 4405.1 litres for the same sum from Tesco.
Whisky expert Ann Miller, The Dram Queen, said: "I wonder how much they could have appreciated the last few drams as most people find their palates become jaded after the first few.”
While the staggering bill from the Fife Arms could be the largest bar tab in Scottish history, it’s a way off from the largest ever globally.
In 2013, millionaire Charles Shaker forked out $498,000 (£402,299) after buying everyone in the Monaco Billionaire Club a round of champagne in what can only be described as a jaw-dropping display.
The Fife Arms in Braemar is a five-star boutique hotel with two Michelin Keys. The venue boasts several restaurants and bars which specialise in seasonal Scottish produce. A single night booking at the hotel costs between £350 and £3790.
The category B-listed hotel was built in the 19th century. It was designed by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie who also the architect behind the Aberdeen Art Gallery, The Australian High Commission and The Waldorf Hilton in London.
The venue’s whisky bar has over 500 drams on offer.
