July 21--Groupon is selling single-day Riot Fest tickets for $69.98 after offering them for $20 cheaper earlier Monday in a deal that gives a look at the lineups for each day of the September music fest on the West Side.
The Groupon, which is available for purchase until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m., is billed as an "exclusive pre-sale" for the Sept. 11-13 fest in Douglas Park in the North Lawndale community. Eight Groupons can be purchased per person.
The tickets were advertised as $49.98 Monday morning but that price was changed to $69.98 Monday afternoon. Riot Fest spokeswoman Heather West said Groupon "posted the wrong pricing." Groupon did not immediately return a request for comment.
The full daily lineup will be announced on the Riot Fest website Tuesday at 10 a.m., West said. Riot Fest will begin selling single-day and two-day tickets Thursday at 10 a.m., West said.
On the Riot Fest website, only three-day passes for $189.98 and three-day VIP passes for $299.98 are available now for sale. Riot Fest has a partnership with Groupon and did a similar deal for its Denver festival, West said.
No Doubt, Ice Cube and special guests, Faith No More and Thrice will perform Sept. 11 to kick off the Chicago fest, according to the Groupon description. The Sept. 12 lineup includes System of a Down, Iggy Pop, Rancid, The Academy Is..., Modern Life is War, Drive Like Jehu, Babes in Toyland and American Nightmare. Modest Mouse, The Prodigy, Snoop Dogg and L7 are on the Sept. 13 schedule, according to Groupon.
Riot Fest organizers announced a preliminary list of performers in May. Organizers recently said the fest will move from Humboldt Park after complaints from residents there about noise and the condition of the park after the festival. About 160,000 people attended the fest over three days last year.
