A group of people intervened during an arrest Sunday afternoon in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
The officers were conducting a traffic stop at 2:10 p.m. in the 4700 block of Gladys Avenue when several people in the vehicle “intervened to prevent officers from arresting one individual from the vehicle,” Chicago police said.
Those people left the area but were arrested shortly after, police said. No weapons were displayed at officers during the encounter, police said.
About four people, including the original person officers were trying to arrest, were being questioned, a police spokesperson said.
Unrelated gunshots were fired in the area about the time of the traffic stop, police said.
Police did not say why the original arrest was attempted, or if charges are pending.
