Group tackling antisocial behaviour in Nottingham honoured with tram artwork

An eye-catching tram design has been unveiled to highlight an awarding-winning community group committed to enriching the lives of young people in Nottingham.

Nottingham Express Transit (NET) has been working with The Pythian Club for the past year, providing sponsorship while engaging members in initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Now the partnership is set to be further strengthened through the ‘Pythian’ tram unveiled on Thursday, January 30.

Previous winners of the Nottingham Post Sport’s Community Award, The Pythian Club is responsible for a wide range of activities run at New Basford Community Centre, the Forest Recreation ground, and Hope House in Beeston.

Commercial manager Chris Williams is responsible for the NET’s community activities and believes the club has a vital role to play in neighbourhoods served by the tram.

He said: “We’re proud to be associated with an organisation that’s providing positive pathways for young people at risk of being affected by poverty, domestic abuse, drug use or mental health issues.

“Through sport and music, the club has found an innovative and effective way of engaging with young people that fits with our own ambition to help make Nottingham a great place to live, work or visit.”

Workshops and an educational event have also been held at the tram depot in Wilkinson Street, with both NET and the club being active supporters of the ‘Kick it Out’ initiative to tackle racism.

Ben Rosser, founder of The Pythian Club, said: “A massive thank you goes to NET for supporting us, and for promoting the work we do across Nottingham.

“The stunning tram wrap will certainly promote the opportunities to take part in activities such as football, boxing and music that the club provides and encourage even more young people to get involved.

“This approach brings communities together and helps deliver youth-led change.”
