Group's 'terrifying' stay at The Adelphi with ghostly encounter

A group of friends were 'terrified' when they stayed at one of the UK's 'most haunted hotels' here on our doorstep in Liverpool.

The Adelphi Hotel has been hailed as 'Britain's most haunted hotel' as dozens report ghostly behaviour they just cannot explain.

Dating back to 1914, most people when they stay there have a paranormal story to tell, whether random hand prints, spooky noises in the night or actual sightings.

The Liverpool landmark on Ranelagh Place is one of Liverpool's oldest hotels, and a designated Grade II listed building, so there is no surprise many people flock there to catch sighting of a ghostly figure that roams the hallways.

Chloe May, from Cardiff, and her partner Matthew Carter have heard all about the spooky goings on and wanted to experience it for themselves, with their friend Jamie, who travelled from the Isle of Wight.

Armed with a K-11 reader, which picks up electromagnetic frequency, and an EMF recorder which picks up voices or noises the human ear cannot - the group vlogged their 'terrifying' 24-hour stay.

The 22-year-old told the ECHO : "Myself and my partner create content for Tik Tok and Youtube, we make vlogs and we wanted to do something a bit different and interesting.

"We started researching and we found out that the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool is one of the most haunted hotels in the UK and this came up in top spot or second place.

"The price for a night was really good so we just decided it would be a great idea for our first vlog so we set out to do it.

"We got there and we weren't expecting any of the stuff that happened to happen. As you can see in the video, you can see the pure shock on our faces as and when it panned out. We weren't expecting any of it."

The creepy video shows the friends arriving at the well-known hotel before excitedly checking into their rooms.

After booking room 119 and 120, the trio said that within just 20 minutes, they witnessed paranormal activity, captured on camera, along with the shocked faces of those unsuspecting guests.

From a door swinging open and lights switching off to running water, the sound of footsteps and the shower curtain mysteriously moving itself - the group filmed themselves talking to a suspected paranormal figure.

The lights on the K-11 ready can be seen flickering as they have ask questions like 'are you here with us'.

Another creepy clip showed how another door opened on its own with the light clicking off.

Chloe said that the light went off 'by itself' despite having working batteries, which then later cam back on and 'lasted for hours' which she 'cannot explain'.

She said: "It was amazing to experience and terrifying at the same time.

"A lot of things happened that shocked me in the moment as well as when I watched it back. The main one was when the door swung open on its own. When you watch it back you can hear the sound of unlocking.

"That for me was the most scary part. It was the first solid thing that had happened in terms of evidence. None of us where stood near the door.

"I was really sceptical going into this and then that happened, it was crazy. I was terrified.

"It didn't feel negative in any way. As the night went on, it got more eerie. Around 3am I got really scared when I realised I had to sleep there, I didn't get a wink of sleep.

"The experience was scary. People can have their own opinions and that's fine we aren't there to prove different but everything we filmed was completely legitimate. Nothing was planned.

"We didn't add anything in, so much was happening around us. I will remember everything forever."

This is not the first time hotel guests have booked at the Liverpool landmark in the hopes of spotting something they cannot explain.

Husband and wife Lee, 55 and Linzi Steer, 52, who created the 'Ghosts of Britain' Facebook page with more than 1.8 million followers, stayed at the hotel in June of this year.

They too were shocked after an attempt to communicate with the spirits.

Chloe said despite being sceptical, she now has 'proof' that the paranormal life exists.

She added: "I wanted to experience it for myself and it's proof to me now after everything we saw and heard.

"I would definitely stay there again.

"We think Liverpool is great, it's got a great history and we found it so interesting when we were there. The architecture was really cool and the people were so lovely."

Cloe, whose vlogging handle is ChloeMayLife, shares her videos on social media platforms alongside her partner, known as MJCMatthew and Jamie known as DJrangster.
