Runners by Ann Kelley

Review by Nicole
The book is set in the future (2061) – where Sid and his sister Lo are on the run, fighting for survival in a world affected by global warming. "Runners" fails to live up to the expectation created by the blurb. Set in the future, it failed to capture my imagination, describing the endless fight for survival and the continuous need to be on the move. It didn't feel like a futuristic novel, rather one set in the past but maybe in some ways that's the point of the book, that with global warming it is about a return to survival of the fittest where only the strong survive. The book also reminded me of parts of The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas where the Reducers seem to be similar to the Nazis and everybody is afraid.

The Apothecary by Maile Meloy

Review by Helen
Janie Scott has just moved to London from LA, and she's finding it forbidding, dreary, and cold. That is until she meets Benjamin Burrows who dreams of becoming a spy. When Benjamin's father – a mysterious apothecary – is kidnapped, he entrusts Janie and Benjamin with a powerful book, full of ancient spells and magical potions. But there are others who seek the book's secrets – spies in possession of nuclear weapons that could destroy the world…
When I finished reading this book, I really felt it is a brilliant book. This is the firsttime I have read Maile Meloy's book. I really like the way she wrote it, the magic of this book is dazzling. My favourite character – Jin Lo, the Chinese chemist is portrayed as beautiful, poised, and elegant. This story is full of mystery, magic, and suspense. I would say it is inventive, smart, and fun, an absolute delight.
I would recommend this to very young readers who like adventure and mystery stories also I personally like this book very much.

Angel by LA Weatherly

Review by Scarlett
Angel is a captivating story that I couldn't put down. It is about a 16-year-old girl named Willow living a completely normal life (as normal as possible considering your nickname is Queen Weird) until she discovers she is half angel. Willow now has to destroy all angels who are feeding from humans; this is a difficult task when the entire world is on a mission to kill you. I enjoyed this book immensely and have read all the books in the series: Angel.
