The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Review by Iola

The book is about a girl called Mary and she has a fabulous life with anything and everything a young girl could ever ask for. Until, one day her parents die in a fire. Luckily Mary survives and is sent to live with her uncle. Mary is now an orphan and treated as a servant. Mary’s life is turned around. After she has settled in and explored most of the house she finds a key which leads to a magical garden...

Overall my favourite character was Mary because she had two different personalities. At the beginning she was all bossy and snobby but then when she moved to live with her uncle she got used to the fact life can’t always go in the direction you want it to.

I think that this book is a good book for kids but I think it would be better for adults because of the way it is written and it uses some words which are hard to understand.

Stunt Boy: The Fincredible Diary of Fin Spencer by Ciaran Murtagh

Review by NH

stunt

Fin Spencer, a normal 12 year old boy, is given a diary by a lady at a funfair. He has never worn a cardigan, never collected stamps and never eaten salad. Finn wants to be a rock star when he grows up, and obviously that is the only reason he writes the diary, so he can show everybody his childhood when he becomes the world’s best stunt boy/rock star.

I enjoyed this book. It was very funny and I think it can be read by anybody but mainly 10 year olds due to its humour. It is a great book and it will make you laugh a lot at how Fin admires himself.

Ferals: The Crow Talker by Jacob Grey

Review by NH

ferals

Caw is an orphan who was left by his unknown parents. So the birds took him and he learned how to speak to the birds. One day at his nest, he discovers that Blackstone’s prisoners have escaped. What will Caw (the feral) do to help? The city will be destroyed by all these prisoners.

I think that this book was great. I read it all in two days. In my opinion the book would be good for 10 to 15 year olds. The writer always makes you wants you to read the next chapter due to the mysterious things that occur. I hope Jacob Grey publishes more great books like this one!
