Group of youths flout social distancing laws to pay tribute to friend

A GROUP of foolish youths flouted social distancing laws by gathering in Coatbridge to celebrate the life of a friend.

Dozens of young men and women hugged and kissed, swigged booze and posed for photos as they defied lockdown guidelines on gatherings.

Some even took to social media, telling authorities to “f**k yer social distancing”.

Up to 30 people drank alcohol – including Buckfast, vodka and MD 2020 – on wasteland in the town following the funeral of a friend.

One of those in attendance posted a selfie on Instagram, commenting: “Away for a social distance swally way ma bestos; probs be in the cells for 4”.

She also posted a photo of the group with the comment: “RIP”.

One lad planning to attend goaded authorities when he posted, “f**k yer social distancing”, before later making his account private.

A member of the public, who fears that the group could have put themselves and others at risk, said: “Some of these individuals have lost friends and family to the virus and others are single mothers.

“One remarked, ‘f**k yer social distancing’. They were all heavily intoxicated and some taking drugs.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We are aware of numerous incident of non compliance across the country with officers attending these calls.

“Officers will engage, explain, encourage to prevent ongoing and future non-compliance.”
