Group of off-road bikers given fines for congregating and ignoring police warnings

A group of men riding scrambler bikes were issued fixed penalty notices after a member of the public reported them to the police.

The five men were riding on off-road scrambler bikes near Pontyberem in Carmarthenshire ignoring social distancing and police warnings.

Only essential travel for basic necessities, one form of exercise or travelling to and from work are allowed under the coronavirus lockdown brought in by Boris Johnson.

However, the group travelled to the rural area in the Gwendraeth Valley to ride on their scrambler bikes together.

They were all handed fixed penalties and one vehicle was also seized for motoring offences.

Cheshire Live also reported that police have stated that there has been a rise in incidents involving off-road scrambler and quad bikes that have been putting a strain on emergency services.

And last month, a group of bikers were confronted by residents in rural Llandovery after parking up and congregating in the town during the lockdown.

One had travelled more than 120 miles from Birmingham to meet up with friends at their haunt at West End Cafe in the historic market town of Llandovery, Wales.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: "A call was received regarding a gathering of males on off road scramblers near Pontyberem."

"Five males were located and issued with fixed penalty notices for COVID 19 related offences. One vehicle was seized for motoring offences."

Dyfed-Powys Police have also warned that officers will be conducting increased stop checks over the bank holiday weekend and will be patrolling to ensure social distancing is adhered to.
