Group of 'more than 40' slammed by police for holding 'street party' in lockdown

A group of "more than 40" people who had a "social distancing party" in the street have been criticised by police.

North Wales Police said that a party was held on a street in Deeside on Saturday, describing it as a "bad idea" which should have been delayed until when the coronavirus pandemic is brought under control.

But their criticism had mixed reviews when they posted about it on Facebook, North Wales Live reported.

Several locals claimed that the party was made up of people in their own gardens.

In the post, the force's North Flintshire local policing team said: "Deeside residents. The chocolate teapot. The motorbike ashtray. The waterproof teabag. All examples of bad ideas.

"A bit like the “social distancing” party that a 40+ group of you held yesterday in the street in Sandycroft. Or the birthday party held on Dock Road.

"Let’s save the celebrations for when this is all over."

Several people responded to the post with criticism of those who took part in the celebrations.

But others said that social distancing measures were observed, with those taking part remaining within their own gardens while enjoying the party.

They also claimed there were far less people involved than claimed by the officers.

One person said: "Everyone was in their gardens...everyone was sensible and stayed a good distance away from each other.

"You could hear it for miles. People dancing in their gardens [it] was one hour of relief."
