Group of men in balaclavas smashed their way into Wigan Tesco and made off with till

An investigation has been launched after three masked men raided a Wigan convenience store and made off with a till.

The thieves, who were all wearing balaclavas, targeted the Tesco Express store on Bolton Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, at around 1.50am this morning (Saturday) by smashing their way through the front door.

Fortunately, the shop was closed at the time and no customers or staff were hurt although the men did manage to carry away a till taken from the counter before fleeing the scene.

The store has been temporarily closed to the public as a result of the raid and the front door has been boarded up until the damage can be repaired.
