Fire crews raced to the scene after the alarm was raised around 9:30pm, and were in attendance for some time as they battled to contain what the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service confirmed were "multiple grass fires".

A Scottish Fire & Rescue spokeswoman said: "We attended the scene of multiple grass fires on Springhill Road around 9:30pm last night, which resulted in large smoke plumes affecting the Springhill area of Barrhead.

"One appliance was mobilised to the scene and was there for some time."
