Group of cows causing major delays to trains in Nottinghamshire

A farmer has been brought in to try and move a group of cows off a railway line in Nottinghamshire.

Commuters travelling between Nottingham and Newark Castle are facing major delays and the line has been closed because of the animals.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has confirmed the incident is at Lowdham and it was reported just after 12noon.

A spokesperson said: "The line has now been closed whilst the farmer and Network Rail staff attempt to move the cows off the line and back into the field."

Routes to Leicester, Lincoln, Grimsby and Matlock, Derby and Nottingham are all being affected, the spokesperson added.

A normal timetable is expected to resume at 1pm.
