Camels found outside Lidl supermarket after breaking free from circus in Germany

Police were scrambled to a Lidl supermarket when a large group of Camels were found loitering in the car park after escaping a circus.

Seven of the animals broke free and made their way to the supermarket, in Bergen, Germany, before being spotted by motorists.

Officers were called to the shop amid concerns the camels would make their way onto the nearby federal highway.

In statement, police said: “Seven camels had broken out of the nearby winter camp of a circus.

“In order to prevent a risk for the flowing traffic on the B3, they secured the location until the animals were returned to their barn. A responsible employee of the circus took the animals back to their stables.”

Officers described the incident, which unfolded on Monday, as a “curious operation”.
