Group of 19 playing cricket in lockdown 'because they were bored' stopped by police

A group of "bored" lads were caught playing cricket despite the coronavirus lockdown and calls from the government to stay at home.

The group of 19 men were found playing the game in a park on Bank Holiday Monday, before officers turned up.

Paul Winstanley filmed the amateur cricketers and his footage shows some of the men are seen sitting on the ground clearly less than two metres apart.

Under coronavirus guidelines, group exercise is also outlawed.

Sports therapist Paul spotted them in Preston, Lancashire and tweeted: "Seventeen people enjoying a game of cricket.

"How stupid can you be...idiots..."

He then rang police on 101 who told him they were going to investigate.

Officers from Lancashire Police arrived shortly afterwards.

The force tweeted: "Ourselves and colleagues from @LancsSpecials attended a report of several males playing cricket on Moor Park, Preston.

"Nineteen adult males who claimed to be 'bored' have been suitably advised regarding social distancing."

Brits who flout the lockdown rules could end up saddled with a £60 fine and potentially another for £120 for a second offence, with the penalty doubling for additional breaches.
