Five people have been charged after allegedly breaching Covid health orders by travelling from Greater Sydney to Goulburn to deliver contraband to the correctional facility.
Police say they observed a man throwing several packages over the fence of the Goulburn jail at around 10.40am on Saturday, before fleeing in a black Jeep SUV.
A subsequent search for the vehicle in the surrounding area was unsuccessful, however, the Jeep reportedly returned to the Goulburn jail hours later.
Police were called to the facility again where they pursued one of the occupants of the vehicle on foot, after he was observed loitering near the fence of the facility, they say.
The 27-year-old man was detained near the Mulwaree River and was arrested alongside four other occupants of the Jeep, a man and three women aged between 34 and 41 years.
Police allege two packages containing tobacco, prescription medication, drugs and other items were later recovered inside the facility.
