'Groundhog Day' - Nigel Pearson delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest fightback at Bristol City

Bristol City looked set to end their long winless home run against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.

The Robins had been searching for a victory at Ashton Gate since January 26, when they beat Huddersfield Town 2-1.

After nine months and a club record 16 home games without a win, Nigel Pearson's side were on course to break that streak.

Teenager Alex Scott put the hosts in front shortly before the break and they were able to hold on for almost the entirety of the match.

But Forest hit back with two late goals to come away with all three points.

Lyle Taylor converted from the penalty kick before scoring a second in a space of two minutes, sealing a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

It meant the Reds leapfrogged the Robins in the Championship table and now sit in 12th place after four consecutive wins.

Pearson admitted after the game: "My comments after games here are becoming like Groundhog Day.

"I would have been disappointed had we drawn the game. To lose it in the way we did was tough to take. We were naïve over the two goals we conceded and our reaction to giving away the first was not good.

"It is my team and my responsibility. I thought we played well enough in the first half, but didn’t protect the ball well enough in the second.

"My job now is to pick the players up because they are understandably very disappointed. I know where we are as a club and where we need to improve. Again there was no shortage of effort but we have to be better at managing games when we are ahead here at Ashton Gate.

"The run goes on and people will keep on talking about it. I try not to get emotional, but of course that is very difficult on nights like this."
