Ground Force presenter Tommy Walsh arrested after altercation in garden

Tommy Walsh, the television personality and builder best known for appearing in Ground Force, was arrested following an altercation in a garden.

Walsh spent a night in custody after being arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm after he apparently found two men urinating in his neighbour’s garden.

The 58-year-old was apparently with his 28-year-old son on his way back from a local pub in Hackney, East London on Friday night when the incident occurred.

Walsh spoke to the Mail on Sunday following his arrest and relayed his side of the story, labelling the incident “handbags”.

“I saw them as I was coming home and that’s bang out of order. It’s disgusting. My neighbour’s kids play in that garden."

According to Walsh, one of the men had an injured ear which the builder gave him a plaster for, however after he left the police attended Walsh’s property.

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke… The police were very polite and understanding but they have procedures to follow.

“But you can’t have people urinating in front gardens – it’s immoral. There is a public loo in the park 250 yards away.”

A police spokesperson told the Press Association they were called to a property in the E9 postcode at 23:00 hours on Friday 29 January “following reports of a fight”.

“Officers attended and found a man in his 30s suffering from an ear injury following an altercation with two men. He was taken to hospital for a check-up but was not seriously injured.

“One man in his 50s was later arrested on suspicion of ABH (actual bodily harm) and taken to a local police station for questioning. He has since been bailed to a date in mid-March. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Walsh was a prominent personality on the BBC series Ground Force which ran from 1997 to 2005 and was hosted by Alan Titchmarsh, Charlie Dimmock and Walsh.
