KOLLAM: Even the Covid pandemic could not prevent them from entering into wedlock as Jeevan Kumar, the groom who is stuck in Ukraine and Dhanya Martin, the bride at Punlur in Kollam district, decided to tie the knot online.
Covid related restrictions on international travel and other reasons beyond their control had delayed their wedding scheduled earlier. But obtaining a Kerala high court order in their favour, they registered their wedding on Friday at the sub-registrar office, Punalur, making it the first wedding to be registered on the digital platform in the state.
Jeevan, a mechanical engineer, is the son of CV Devarajan of Thirunilasseri, Ilampal. Dhanya, an IT professional, is the daughter of Martin of Dhanya Bhavan, Nehru junction, Kazhakkoottam.
Due to the Covid pandemic, Jeevan couldn’t reach the state from Ukraine in time and applied to extend the validity of the application to avoid a personal appearance at the Punalur sub-registrar office. The HC bench comprising justices Judge A Mohammad Mushtaq and Dr Kauser Edappagath sought the opinion of the External Affairs ministry and IT ministry in this regard. Following this, the court allowed Jeevan's father to sign on behalf of his son in front of the sub-registrar. Punalur sub-registrar and marriage officer TM Firoz registered their wedding. District registrar CJ Johnson supervised the proceedings.
