Groom dies day after wedding as tributes paid to 'kind and caring' dad-of-one

Tributes have poured in for a 'kind and caring' dad-of-one following his tragic death at the age of 34 just a day after he married his wife.

Luke Wheatley's colleagues, who worked in a brewery and bar, started a fundraiser for Luke earlier this year as he was in urgent need of chemotherapy after being told he had Anaplastic large cell lymphoma, a rare type of fast-growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Luke tragically passed away on October 14 having married his partner Melissa, just the day before, reports Yorkshire Live.

The father had originally moved to the Cleethorpes area from Bradford, only six weeks after the birth of the couple's child, Matilda.

Stuart Andrews, a close friend and member of the management team at Docks Beers, said Luke was an amazing man who will be sorely missed by everyone.

He said: "When we found out what had happened, it was heartbreaking. Myself and another member of staff were on the bar when the news came through and we had to take time to process it.

"We've always been in contact with Melissa and Luke's family. We never expected this to happen.

"It was a massive shock to us all as it came quite suddenly.

"We never thought this would happen to Luke, he was such a great guy and an absolutely impeccable bloke. His knowledge of beers was second to none.

"There wasn't a bad bone in his body and he was always dedicated to his wife Melissa and other members of his family.

"He was patient, kind and a loving father.

"Luke originally started with our Sunday service and would always have time to chat to customers and friends.

"On the day we opened, he'd never met us but he came in three hours early to make sure we were set up okay.

"He just came in and said 'right, what are we doing'? It was as if he'd always been here.

"He was a quiet guy, but once you got to know him he opened up so much more."

The Docks Beers team shared their loss on social media in a touching post liked by hundreds of customers.

It said: "A post we hoped we would never have to write. Sadly this morning our dear friend and Docks team member Luke passed away.

"We send our love and condolences to Melissa, his daughter Matilda and all of his family. We are truly sorry for your loss. Luke you will be missed."

His wife Melissa said: "Luke was so patient, kind and caring."
