The launch comes after months of speculation and a skipped release of Grok 3.5, which was previously promised but never made it. Instead, xAI is now moving directly to Grok 4, aiming to compete more aggressively with other players like OpenAI and Anthropic.
Grok 4 is expected to deliver massive improvements in natural language understanding, mathematical reasoning, and coding support. Early reports indicate the model will feature improved performance in first-principles reasoning and complex problem-solving. The company has also teased future updates that will add multimodal abilities, like image generation and vision features.
The new version will launch with at least two variants: a general-purpose model and a specialized “Grok 4 Code” which is likely to be designed to help developers with programming tasks, code correction, and error analysis. Recently, both of the forthcoming Grok models were spotted in the source code of xAI’s developer console. According to xAI, Grok 4 will also support longer contextual conversations and faster, more accurate responses than previous versions.
The Grok 4 launch will be streamed live on xAI’s official X account and will showcase the model’s new capabilities during the event. However, it’s not an easy climb for Grok 4. As the competition is heating up in space. Recently, it was reported that OpenAI is setting up the stage to launch its much-awaited GPT-5 this summer. It will combine the advanced reasoning of its “O” series with the multimodal capabilities found in the GPT-4 series.
