Two unreleased Grok models, named Grok 4 and Grok 4 Code, have been spotted in the source code of xAI’s developer console. It was first spotted by the X account named AiBattle, which is known for digging into the backend updates of major AI platforms.
According to the leaked descriptions, Grok 4 is being positioned as xAI’s “latest and greatest flagship model,” built to deliver top-tier performance across natural language processing, mathematics, and reasoning tasks. Meanwhile, Grok 4 Code is designed specifically as a coding assistant that can integrate directly into code editors, potentially aiming to compete with tools like GitHub Copilot and Cursor.

Grok 4 Launch Timeline and Strategy Shift
The timing also lines up with Elon Musk’s recent announcement that xAI is skipping the previously planned Grok 3.5 release and instead shifting focus to Grok 4. Musk had earlier confirmed that Grok 4 will be released shortly after July 4, indicating the upgrade could be just days away.
Grinding on @Grok all night with the @xAI team. Good progress.

Will be called Grok 4. Release just after July 4th. Needs one more big run for a specialized coding model.
However, this marks a clear strategic pivot, with xAI choosing to double down on a major leap forward rather than releasing incremental updates, as many people on the internet were saying that xAI is falling behind when it comes to the AI race.
What’s New We Can Expect from Grok 4?
If we go by the earlier reports and internal documentation, Grok 4 is expected to pack some big improvements:
- Advanced Coding Tools: Grok 4 is said to come with a built-in code editor inspired by Visual Studio Code, allowing developers to write, edit, and debug code directly within the Grok interface.
- Agentic Coding: The update is also expected to support agent-like behavior, allowing Grok to take actions inside integrated development environments (IDEs) instead of just suggesting code.
- Improved Reasoning and Real-Time Features: Grok 4 is expected to compete more aggressively with leading models like OpenAI’s GPT-5 and Google’s Gemini Deep Think, with improvements in real-time task handling and multi-step reasoning.
That’s a wrap for now. But with a launch expected soon, I am expecting to see more details emerge from xAI in the coming days. So if you want to stay updated on the xAI’s Grok 4 launch and want all the latest tech updates, then join our WhatsApp channel.
