Grizzlies will be shorthanded vs. Thunder after trade of Marc Gasol

After making a couple of trades prior to the NBA trade deadline, the Memphis Grizzlies will be a bit shorthanded Thursday night against the Thunder.

The organization traded Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles and a 2024 second-round draft pick.

In another move, the Grizzlies sent Garrett Temple and JaMychal Green to the Los Angeles Clippers for Avery Bradley, and they also swapped Shelvin Mack with the Atlanta Hawks for Tyler Dorsey.

In addition to the trades, the team had already ruled Omri Casspi and Dillon Brooks out of the game due to injury so they will likely only have at most 10 players available to play against the Thunder.

While the team traded Gasol, they opted to keep longtime Grizzlies player Mike Conley, despite reports indicating they were looking to move him, with the Utah Jazz as one potential destination.

Once his name surfaced in a deal with the Jazz, a report was published that indicated Conley did not want to play for the Jazz and only wanted to be traded to the Eastern Conference.

Earlier Thursday, Conley addressed that report.

“I never said that so when I saw it on the internet, I just let it go,” Conley said Thursday at shootaround. “There is no reason for me to get in between that stuff. I’ll play anywhere. I’ve never run from a conference or any particular place or anything like that.”

After all of that, Conley will remain with the organization for now as the team will keep him and likely look at moving him over the offseason.

The Thunder are favored by 14 points Thursday against Memphis.
