Grizzlies and Andre Iguodala reach agreement to not have him report to camp

If you’ve been reading the tea leaves from the moment he was traded from the Golden State Warriors, it has never looked like the Memphis Grizzlies would go out of their way to accommodate 2015 NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala. But where the Grizzlies will acquiesce is on creating a scene for their young team in training camp.

According to Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian, the Grizzlies and Iguodala have reached an agreement that the 15-year forward doesn’t have to report to the team’s Media Day next week or any of training camp with the expectation that he is dealt or bought out later in the season.

Iguodala will remain on the Grizzlies roster, likely well into the season. However, the team agreed the veteran can continue private workouts at a location of his choosing while Memphis pursues trades involving the former Golden State Warrior and NBA Finals MVP.

Many have seen Iguodala as candidate to join the Lakers, should they open a roster spot. His championship pedigree, as well as his connection with former agent Rob Pelinka both make him very strong candidates to join any team, the Lakers included.

But while everyone has an idea on where Iguodala will end up (the Clippers are also a popular destination), the Grizzlies are taking the time to weigh their options while the 15-year veteran can skip training camp for the first time in a long time.
