In the first surefire sign winter is finally on its way, gritters have been deployed on the roads of Greater Manchester due to temperatures heading towards freezing.
A widespread frost has been predicted, so the trucks have been out and about spraying the roads with salt. Drivers have been told to take extra care on their journeys, while windscreens may need to be scraped for the first time since earlier in the year as a cold snap finally makes its presence felt.
Untreated roads will be the ones most affected, especially in sheltered areas and over high ground, while there will be fog to contend with as well. Best to leave extra time for your journeys.
