Gritters in Nottingham on 'red alert' as freezing temperatures expected

Nottingham gritters will be out and across the city overnight as freezing temperatures are expected.

Red status means the weather is expected to cause road surface temperatures to fall or stay below zero degrees C.

Nottingham City Council's Highways team has said a hoar frost - formed when dew freezes - is expected, although there has been no prediction for ice on the roads.

The red status was issued by the council at 12.50pm on Wednesday, December 11.

Road temperatures are expected to be warmer on Thursday and will then drop again on Friday.
