Gritter ‘Sir Andy Flurry’ bursts into flames on busy A9 as emergency crews race to scene

A Scots gritter dubbed ‘ Sir Andy Flurry ’ has been almost completely destroyed after bursting into flames on the A9 today.

The BEAR Scotland vehicle was travelling southbound near Aberuthven, in Perth and Kinross, when the engine caught fire at around 2.47pm on Sunday, January 24.

Two fire engines raced to the scene to extinguish the blaze which engulfed the cab of the lorry after workers thankfully escaped.

Motorists were warned to expect disruption while emergency services dealt with the incident which temporarily blocked both lanes of the carriageway.

Another said: “Sir Andy Flurry gritter got a wee bit toasty and burnt out on the A9 southbound.”
