Grinning cocaine dealer tells supporters to 'keep smiling' after he is jailed for selling Class A drug

A grinning cocaine dealer clapped his hands and said "Keep smiling!" after getting a much shorter prison sentence than he might have expected.

He was selling the very high purity and potentially lethal Class A drug to pay off debts and was also offering to supply cannabis, a court heard.

Kieran Nicholls, 27, of Hanson Way, Grimsby, admitted possessing 60.6g of cocaine with intent to supply, offering to supply cannabis and possessing 16.1g of cannabis, GrimsbyLive reports.

Stephen Welch, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that police executed a search warrant at the home of the sister of Nicholls in Sidney Street, Cleethorpes, on June 12, 2017.

'Personal use'

Nicholls was there and a bag was discovered containing skunk cannabis with a possible street value of £160 and a bag of very high 85-per-cent-purity cocaine, worth about £4,880 on the streets.

Mobile phone evidence suggested that he had been offering to supply cannabis on a number of occasions but he claimed: "It's all mine. It's all for personal use."

He had been given a one-year suspended prison sentence in November 2015 for possessing cannabis with intent to supply and was jailed for 22 months in July last year for inflicting grievous bodily harm and affray.

Saleem Khan, mitigating, said Nicholls had been recalled to prison for breaching his licence but, before that, had been making significant progress. He had been dealing cocaine to pay off debts.

Nicholls was jailed for three years and four months.

As he was led out of the dock, he clapped his hands, grinned at supporters in the public gallery and said "Keep smiling!"

He was clearly expecting a much longer prison sentence. The judge reduced it from a starting point of six years and then an initial five years because of his guilty pleas and a delay in bringing the case.
