Grimes appeared to confirm that she is pregnant in a new Instagram announcement, after her initial post was removed from the platform due to nudity.
The musician, real name Claire Boucher, first shared a naked photo of herself with a foetus superimposed onto her stomach on Wednesday night.
The post then disappeared from her account, prompting her to upload a new, censored photo with the caption: “Censored for insta haha - almost got away w [sic] it.”
The star, 31, has been dating Tesla entrepreneur Elon Musk since 2018.
Replying to a comment on her original announcement, Grimes said that she “thought about censoring [the photo] for a hot minute” but said “the photo is so much less feral without the nipples.”
She added: “Plus being knocked up is a very feral & war-like state of being. Might as well be what it is.
“Plus most of my friends told me not to post them so then I was afflicted w [sic] reverse psychology. Interrogated my shame on it and decided it was sum weird internalised self hatred to feel uncomfortable abt my body [sic].”
A number of Grimes’ celebrity friends wrote congratulatory comments on the post, with her previous collaborator Janelle Monae sharing a string of emojis.
Musician Princess Nokia wrote: “Congrats beautiful alien family.”
Musk has five children with his ex-wife Justine Wilson, who he was married to from 2000 to 2008.
He then married St Trinians and Pride and Prejudice actress Talulah Riley in 2010. The couple split in 2012 but then remarried in 2013, before finally parting ways in 2016.
