This festive season saw no let-up in serious incidents which called upon the emergency services.
A raid on a jewellers' just as they were closing up for Christmas, a hit-and-run on Christmas Day, two separate incidents in which bodies were pulled from lakes, and a murder enquiry were part of the grim toll which took place during Christmas week.
Here is a round-up of the major incidents which occurred over the holiday period on Merseyside.

Masked gang smash into jewellers in terrifying Christmas Eve raid
A mask gang smashed through a jewellery store and rode away on electric scooters in a terrifying Christmas Eve raid.
Merseyside Police were called to Broadway Jewellers on Utting Avenue East, Norris Green at around 4.20pm on Christmas Eve following reports of a robbery.

A group of masked men forced entry into the jewellers and threatened staff inside the shop.
The men, who stole several items of jewellery, fled the scene on electric scooters towards the direction of Long Lane.
Teenager injured in Christmas Day hit and run
Emergency services were called to Hoylake Road, Birkenhead, at around 12.45pm on December 25 following reports of a collision involving an unknown vehicle and a scrambler bike rider.
The teenage male rider was removed via air ambulance and was taken to hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries to his leg.

The driver failed to stop at the scene and an investigation is underway.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police has said the teenager remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Boxing Day lake tragedy
A man died after he was pulled from a lake on Boxing Day.
The 23-year-old man was rescued from the water at the Merseyside park and given CPR.
But he was later pronounced dead at the scene at Walton Hall Park, at around 8.58am, on Sunday, December 26.
His death is currently being treated as unexplained pending the result of a post mortem examination to establish his cause of death. He has not yet been named but his next of kin have been informed.
Several floral tributes have now been tied to the railings next to the lake where the tragic event took place.
Man's body discovered at Trans Pennine loop line bridge
A body was found in a wooded area after police were called about concerns for the safety of a man.
There were reports of a "big police presence" under the Trans Pennine Trail loop line bridge on Childwall Valley Road at around 8.45pm on Wednesday (December 29).
A helicopter was reported to be shining its light onto the loop line itself.
Sadly the body of a man in his 20s was found and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Murder probe after elderly man found dead with head injury
Detectives launched a murder probe after an elderly man was found dead with head injuries at a house in Old Swan.
Patrols were called to the address in Woodhall Road at 11.50pm on Wednesday, December 29 and found the 79-year-old victim collapsed in the property.
Despite CPR being administered and the attendance of North West Ambulance Service - the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
He was today named by police as Anthony 'Tony' Lavender, and floral tributes have been left outside the property.
A 37-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody.
Mass street brawl leads to road closure
Merseyside Police were called out following reports of a brawl between a group of people in Prescot.
Atherton Street, just off the main A57, remained closed for hours yesterday (Thursday) while forensic officers carried out an investigation of the scene.
Forensic investigators were seen crouching on the pavement in white suits placing evidence marker points on the ground.
Two men, both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.
Body of man pulled from lake as police surround park
The body of a man was pulled from a lake in Birkenhead Park.
Merseyside Police confirmed the man was pronounced dead shortly after officers were contacted at 2.05pm yesterday (Thursday).
An investigation is now underway as police check CCTV and make witness enquiries to establish what has happened and to find the man's next of kin.
Part of the park was sealed off from members of the public as the investigation continued.
