'Grim-faced' Melania gives Donald Trump a wide berth as 'gloves come off' in election

As Americans nervously wait for the results of the US election, President Donald Trump faced the cameras to give an extraordinary speech falsely claiming victory.

His wife Melania walked out with him and stood nearby as he scoffed at the electoral system and made a series of false claims about the results.

Dressed in a black trouser suit, Melania flashed a quick smile before her cheer seemed to evaporate.

Body language expert Judi James has decoded the First Lady's seemingly "grim" expression and noted her mood seemed to match her "funereal black" outfit.

Judi explains: " Melania’s signal facial expression can be beautifully impassive and Sphynx-like but the mood-change today was dramatic, even though the actual expression changes were subtle.

"Gone was the wide smile she had used during the election campaign, which had been so strong that people had even started to ask if she were a body double.

"In its place was a grim mouth-clamp as she gazed at her husband in her funereal black trouser suit and while Trump’s kids buzzed about grinning excitedly as though celebrating a big win, it was Melania’s appearance that told a very different story.

"She clapped her husband to show support but it was the raising of her chin that had the most impact.

"It looked like a gesture of defiance that matched Trump’s narrative.

"There was no contact between the pair on stage but Melania did seem to echo the idea that the smiles have died as the gloves have come off."

During the speech, Trump claimed the election was being subjected to "major fraud" and called for the vote counting to come to an end.

He declared: "We’ll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop.

"We don’t want them to find any ballots at four o’clock in the morning and add them to the list."

He added: "We will win this. And as far as I'm concerned, we already have won it."

After the speech ended, Melania was seen walked off the stage before her husband.

She shot off so quickly, she'd actually vanished before President Trump left the stage himself.
